How Bright Colours Can Bring Colour to Your Life

A picture of a brunette woman in her mid twenties wearing Barbie pink trousers and a cream roll neck top. Her arms are extended in the air - one upwards and the other to the left, she is standing in the BBC Sussex Radio reception, it says BBC sussex above her on the wall, and there is an "On Air' red neon sign to the right.

Bring Vibrant Colour into Your Life with Bold Hues

If you’ve met me, it’s highly likely that I was wearing bright pair of pink trousers. Bright colours bring me such joy (if you couldn’t tell from We are sunshine, rainbows and all the inbetweens) and they make me feel a heck-tonne more confident than if I was wearing darker, more chilled-out shades – although I do love a cheeky greige as much as the next person.

Surrounding yourself with vivid shades can have a profound effect on your mood and outlook. So if you ever feel like your life lacks pizzazz, or that days are starting to feel dull and dreary, infuse your world with a dash of colour and brightness to liven things up!

Jazz up your home space

Decorating your home or workspace with vibrant accents is an easy way to inject colour. Hang cheerful artwork on the walls or display fresh or faux flowers in every room. Opt for patterned rugs, pillows and other textiles to create an energetic environment. Paint one accent wall in a bold hue like crimson or turquoise to add visual interest.

Dopamine Dressing

Forget you are what you eat, you are what you wear! Infact, there’s a whole book on the subject by Professor Karen J. Pine – Mind What You Wear: The Psychology of Fashion where she explains “What we wear affects how we feel so much that it can distort and determine our thoughts and judgments.”

Two of my favourite dopamine dressers, are the Late Queen Elizabeth ll, and Fearne Cotton. The Queen probably didn’t refer to it as such, but you could without a doubt create a rainbow with pictures of the Queen from over the last century!

Update your own wardrobe by incorporating more colourful pieces. Try a pink jumper for a playful pop of colour, or rock a pair of emerald trousers for a dose of confidence. Don’t be afraid to mix and match bright tones in fun combinations (orange and pink, or red and pink is a firm fave of mine). Accessorise with eye-catching jewellery, scarves, hats or shoes. Dressing in colour reflects the inner joy we want to radiate outwards.

Surround yourself with colourful people and experiences

Seek out the beauty and diversity in your community. Immerse yourself in the arts by visiting museums, attending local festivals and exploring new places. Try a fun new hobby or class where you can unleash your creativity. Cook vibrant meals overflowing with fresh fruits and veggies. Intentionally look for the vibrant moments that make life feel more alive.

Follow this rainbow path to infuse your days with a sense of vitality. When you flood your world with colour, your spirit can’t help but feel uplifted. So challenge yourself to seek out those bold hues in big and little ways. Be the burst of colour you want to see!
